Thanks for stopping by War of the Worlds Central!
I created this site because, honestly, when I read The War of the Worlds, I fell head over heels for it. I knew it was a classic with historical literary significance going in, but I wasn’t prepared for how good it was—how moving, how relatable.
One thing that struck me was H.G. Wells’ bold choice not to name his main characters. It’s such an unusual decision, yet it didn’t stop me from deeply connecting with them. (I was practically jumping up and down at one point—but no spoilers! We’ll get to all that.)
When I love something, I tend to dive headfirst into every last detail. They call it ADHD hyper-fixation; I call it good old-fashioned fun.
I’d heard of the famous Orson Welles radio broadcast and vaguely knew about a movie or two. But when I started looking into it… wow. I was blown away by the sheer volume of adaptations. I thought there were maybe two films? Ha! There were three in 2005 alone. Add in TV series, comic books, video games, and even a musical—yes, a musical—and it’s clear this story has a timeless appeal.
That got me thinking: What is it about this tale that resonates across generations? What makes it so inspiring for creatives? And how many of these adaptations truly capture the magic of the original?
In typical “I gots to know” fashion, I started digging. And that’s how this website was born.
